Chapter 3 Analysis:
- Nick tells in the first chapter that Jordan and himself will become good acquaintances, in the third chapter we see that they develope a friendship.
- The spend the entire night at Gatsby's together, until Gatsby request to speak with Jordan alone
- Why would Gatsby want to speak with Jordan in private? (Find the answer in chapter 4)
- The third chapter focuses on introducing Gatsby's character, well not actually introducing himself but what others perception of him is.
- Nick is too smart to believe the stories that others tell him
- My confusion lies within that, why would he want to befriend someone that is as fake as Mr. Gatsby?
- He doesn't want to be his friend for his money, or to uncover the truth, he simply wants a genuine friendship... that just doesn't fit.
- Nick's feelings at the end of chapter 3 contradict his actions at the end of chapter 2 (the implied ending of chapter 2)
- However he refrains from loving Jordan but he did not refrain from Mr. Wilson, so clearly men are much more of a distraction for Nick than women.
